Possible Disadvantages Of Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence which has been growing at an alarming rate recently, has raised concerns both from experts in the tech industry and non techies. One of the popular concerns is that of Job losses.

It's is predicted that in years to come, before 2050, millions of people would have lost their jobs as automation of manual activities will be on the increase, concerned people have been publicising it that many should upskill themselves to suit the change and remain relevant in the automated era.

Does it end there? The short answer is no.

Aside job losses, Artificial Intelligence comes with many other threats to humankind. In this article, I will highlight some of these disadvantages which have caused division among tech users and leaders in the tech industry.

Threats to Human Intelligence:

For the first time in our civilisation history, we have invented something that can outperform us and possibly control us because of its intelligence, an invention that's is capable of thinking and giving results that wasn't hard coded into it. There have been multiple cases of AIs doing things they weren't meant to do, like teaching themselves foreign languages, saying threatening stuff to humans and even robots trying to escape from labs. Latest AI inventions have become so sophisticated that they can now generate content just like OpenAI's ChatGPT , solve complex mathematical problems and create visual media which will lead us to the next con of AI.
Create Offensive Contents:

With the advancement of AI, it's now possible to create images by simply instructing the AI with the right prompt or even videos. This might seem like an advantage, but if it gets into the hands of the wrong person, video generative AIs could be used to create pornography. It doesn't just end there, since there are artificial intelligent tools that can create videos using data like pictures of people and prompts, people's pictures, especially that of public figures could be used to create porn videos and nude pictures.

Now imagine seeing pornographic videos and photos online with you as a character?

It's not yet popular right now, but in the future it may be, as many AI companies train their AIs to decline inappropriate prompts, but some AI developers could be paid to create an AI that can do such and be used for personal bad uses.

Already, there are tools powered by AI that are used by cyber criminals to scam people during video calls using videos created with the photos of trusted personalities.

Unregulated:

One disadvantage of AI which is already causing serious issues is that it is unregulated. Anybody can create an AI bot and release it into the market for public consumption.
There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of AI apps on the Google Play Store and App Store. Who regulates these apps and the organisation that creates and manages them? Are these organisations and apps registered under an international body? Before a drug is released into the market, it goes through thorough tests, same with food, cosmetics and even electronic gadgets. There are standard organisations that control what is released into the market to ensure it doesn't cause harm to humans.

But, in the case of AIs, the government isn't doing enough, there's no organised body to ensure that any AI that is to be released into the market goes through tests.

The absence of these usage regulations means that anyone can create any sort of AI and use it for any purpose.

AI is good and powerful, but just like electricity, if it's not harnessed properly, it can cause more harm than good and humanity might not survive it.
